So, a couple of weeks ago I went to my midwife for a check up and I was telling her that every pound I lost after my Little one was born has quickly been put back on and then some. She has recommended that I try to use the glycemic index as a basis for fulfilling my dietary needs. So, I have been reading up on the pros and the cons
Web MD seems to have the best info. A one stop shop if you will. If I understand this right, the purpose of using the glycemic index is to eat low index foods (HEALTHY FOODS - Snickers bar is a low GI but I wouldn't recommend it as my daily snack.
- Low (good) glycemic index levels: 55 or less
- Medium glycemic index levels: 56–69
- High (bad) glycemic index levels: 70 or higher
So I found a great
web site that lists common food and their glycemic index number. The biggest issue that I have with this process is that there is no serving sizes listed. At the same time that I am trying to loose weight, I am Exclusively Breast feeding my 6 months old so I need at least 2000 calories to sustain life for both of us other wise, I will be hungry all the time and that never leads to good food choices.
So, over the course of the next thirty days, you will be able to follow my food choices (I'll list them in the blog) and I'll tell you the ups and downs and once a week, I'll log my weight. As of last night, on my parents digital scale I weighted 232. I am 5'6" tall and I am at least 75 pounds over weight. I am 30 years old with 4 kids and a husband. I stay at home and i do laundry all day :-)
Follow me on this journey... It should be interesting.
till next time,
-Jen
